Welcome to the website of the VI International Seminar Latin America and the Caribbean: Politics, Conflicts, and Contemporary Challenges – VI SIALAT, to be held in Belém, from December 2 to 4, 2026.

The VI SIALAT is a space for intellectual critique and plural dialogue promoted by the Center for Advanced Amazonian Studies (NAEA) of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA).

In its sixth edition, the seminar has consolidated itself as one of the main forums for debate on Latin American and Caribbean realities in Brazil. In the face of a constantly changing global scenario, it brings together professors, researchers, social movements, students, and professionals in general to reflect on the new (and old) conflicts and policies that shape our territories and dispute the future of societies.

Why participate?

SIALAT is not only an academic event; it is a meeting point for those who seek to understand Latin America and the Caribbean from within, through contextualized perspectives and interpretations. Our thematic axes address fundamental issues such as:

  • Development and Sustainability: Climate challenges and the role of the Pan-Amazon.
  • Neo-extrativismoThe economic and strategic model of domination of the future and its critique.
  • Bodies and territories The voices of Indigenous peoples, traditional communities, and urban spaces.
  • Geopolitics and the new world order The place of the Caribbean and Latin America in a context of polycrisis.
  • polycrisis Good living, rights, and autonomy of peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean.
